How did sports cards get to where they are today? Sports cards hit their popularity height in the 1970's in America as collectors everywhere tried to complete sets of their favorite players' and teams' official cards. Companies like Topps, Upper Deck, Donruss, Leaf, Playoff, Fleer, and Press Pass got creative and started having players sign their autographs on cards, and even put small pieces of the players' jerseys and equipment on the card itself. Soon collectors were just as excited about getting their favorite players' autographed and jersey cards as breaking (opening) a box of sports trading cards.
Individual card prices change as the player changes. If a player turns into an all-star, his card prices usually go up. There may be baseball cards worth over $500,000.00. half a million dollars.. a Honus Wagner T206 card in good condition.
Today, Rookie Cards (the player's first-year in his professional league) are worth the most. Autographs aren't cheap either. Make sure to check TheCardKid's product description to see what kind of cards you can get from the boxes you are buying. Prices are always changing (just like the stock market) so makes sure to check back regularly on your investment.
